Medical Acupunture
 Acupuncture
is the insertion of very fine needles (usually painless) into the body at
defined points, to positively affect the body’s energy flow, called Qi (pronounced
“chee”).
It has been practiced for 5000 years in China, and is now used throughout
Asia, Europe and countries of the former Soviet Union. Acupuncture aims
to balance the two opposing forces of nature, Yin and Yang, within the body
to promote healing and health. The World Health Organization recognizes
acupuncture’s successful treatment of a wide range of diseases, including digestive disorders such as spastic colon, chronic constipation or diarrhea;
respiratory problems such as sinusitis and asthma; neurologic problems like
chronic headaches, facial tics or Bell’s palsy; musculoskeletal problems
including neck pain, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, tendonitis, low back
pain, sciatica and arthritis; urinary problems including overactive bladder
and incontinence, and menstrual and reproductive problems.
Acupuncture is particularly useful in resolving physical problems related
to tension, stress, and emotional conditions as well. Medical acupuncture
in the US is performed by physicians trained in Western medicine who have
